Barnes & Mullins BJ306 'Perfect' Guitar Banjo

An Authentic Bluegrass Banjo Tone with Standard Guitar Tuning

The Barnes & Mullins BJ306 ‘Perfect’ 6-string guitar banjo is a game-changer for guitarists eager to dive into the world of bluegrass without sacrificing the familiarity of standard guitar tuning. This instrument combines the best of both worlds, offering the rich, resonant tones of a traditional banjo with the comfort and playability of a guitar.

The low action and fast neck make it incredibly responsive, allowing you to play with ease and precision. Its closed-back mahogany resonator, paired with a genuine Remo Vellum head, delivers a powerful, punchy tone that cuts through with clarity and warmth. The geared machine heads ensure that your tuning stays rock-solid, even during the most intense jam sessions.

Whether you're a seasoned player looking to expand your sonic palette or a beginner eager to start with a versatile and reliable instrument, the BJ306 is designed to inspire and delight every time you pick it up.

Why should I buy a 6-string banjo?

If you’re a guitarist wanting to explore what the banjo has to offer, this B&M Perfect 6-string banjo is the perfect instrument for you! It is tuned the same as a 6-string guitar - (E,A,D,G,B,E) – and therefore allows you guitarists to easily transfer your existing understanding, skill set and licks to the banjo seamlessly.

Perhaps you’re a seasoned 4-string or 5-string banjo player and want to expand your experience into playing yet more types of banjos? This B&M ‘Perfect’ 6-string banjo is the ideal way for you to do so.

Barnes & Mullins Origins

Founded in 1894 by Mr. Albert Mullins and Mr. S. Bowley Barnes, Barnes & Mullins began with “The Jo,” their famous musical instrument journal, specializing in all things banjo. They soon began manufacturing their own banjos and importing other instruments. The original Barnes and Mullins banjos are still highly sought after by collectors worldwide.

In 1914, Albert Mullins tragically drowned when the ‘Empress of Ireland’ sank on the St. Lawrence River during the home leg of a 2-year sales trip. Bowley Barnes continued the business, moving it from Bournemouth to Rathbone Place, London. In 1976, Mark Barnes, Bowley Barnes' son, relocated the business to Grays Inn Road, Bloomsbury. After Mark’s death in 1986, Bruce Perrin, who had been a Director since 1986, became Managing Director in 1999 and moved the business to its current location in Oswestry, Shropshire.

Bruce Perrin emphasises, “We are excited about the future and are constantly looking at ways to innovate and evolve, yet Barnes and Mullins has always endeavoured to put the customer at the top of its priority list.”
