Baroque Guitar In Spain And The New World Book

Selections from the Publications and Manuscripts of Four Essential Spanish Baroque Guitarists

Dive into the rich heritage of Spanish Baroque guitar music with this enlightening anthology, which presents key selections from the works of four foundational guitarists: Gaspar Sanz, Antonio de Santa Cruz, Francisco Guerau, and Santiago de Murcia. Spanning 176 pages, this collection offers not only a delightful repertoire for enthusiasts and performers but also serves as an educational resource designed to demystify historical music practices.

The realm of early music for the guitar remains largely unexplored, with many pieces from the Baroque period yet to be heard by modern audiences. Recent efforts by musicologists and period performers have begun to unearth this forgotten treasure trove, making previously inaccessible scores available for contemporary interpretation. Despite these advancements, the process of engaging with these historical sources can seem daunting to those unfamiliar with historical musicology and period performance techniques.

This book aims to bridge the gap between scholarly and performance editions, providing guitarists with a practical introduction to working with tablature transcriptions and addressing various aspects of historically informed performance. Whether you are a seasoned musician or a curious newcomer to Baroque music, this anthology promises to enrich your musical repertoire and deepen your understanding of this influential era.
