Muzio Clementi - 6 Sonatinas Op 36 Piano Book

Urtext Edition

Muzio Clementi's 'Six Progressive Sonatinas Op. 36' were composed towards the end of the 18th century as he championed the piano as the successor to the harpsichord. These sonatinas, arranged in ascending order of difficulty, remain popular with piano teachers today. This Urtext edition is based on the first edition from 1797, and includes Clementi’s original fingering, which is notably modern. A valuable resource for both students and teachers alike. 45 pages.

Who was Muzio Clementi?

Muzio Clementi (1752–1832) was an Italian-born composer, pianist, conductor, and music publisher, often regarded as the "Father of the Piano." He was a significant figure in the development of piano music during the late Classical and early Romantic periods.

Clementi was a pioneer in advancing piano technique and composition, writing music that emphasized the unique capabilities of the piano, as opposed to the harpsichord, which was more common in earlier periods. His works, especially his sonatinas and sonatas, were influential in shaping piano teaching methods and are still widely used today.

Clementi was also an accomplished pianist, conductor, and teacher. Among his students was the famous composer John Field, and he even influenced the young Ludwig van Beethoven. In addition to composing, he founded a successful music publishing company and contributed to the manufacturing of pianos, helping to develop the modern instrument.  Clementi's legacy includes his contributions to piano performance, pedagogy, and composition, making him a central figure in the history of Western classical music.
