Who was Joseph Haydn?

Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) was an Austrian composer who played a crucial role in the development of classical music, earning the titles "Father of the Symphony" and "Father of the String Quartet." Born in a small Austrian village, Haydn's musical talents led him to a career as a choirboy in Vienna before becoming a court musician for the Esterházy family, where he composed extensively. His music, known for its clarity, balance, and creativity, includes 104 symphonies, 68 string quartets, and numerous other works that shaped the classical tradition. Haydn's influence extended to his students, including Beethoven, and his friendship with Mozart, with whom he shared mutual musical influence. His later years brought international fame, particularly through his celebrated "London" symphonies. Haydn's legacy endures as one of the most significant composers in Western music history.
