Christian Heinrich Hohmann

Christian Heinrich Hohmann (1753–1803) was a German violinist, composer, and music educator. He is best known for his pedagogical works, particularly his violin method books, which were influential in the development of violin teaching during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Hohmann’s Practical Violin Method is one of his most recognised contributions, focusing on technical exercises and pieces designed for young violin students to develop fundamental skills.

Although not as widely recognised today as some of his contemporaries, Hohmann’s works were well-regarded in his time and played an important role in the evolution of violin pedagogy. His methods emphasised a practical approach to learning the violin, aiming to balance technique with musical expression.
