Who Was Domenica Scarlatti?

Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) was an Italian composer and keyboard virtuoso of the Baroque era. He is primarily known for his contributions to the development of keyboard music, particularly for the harpsichord and clavichord. Scarlatti's most significant and influential works are his keyboard sonatas, of which he composed over 550 during his lifetime.

His keyboard sonatas are characterized by their innovative and virtuosic use of keyboard techniques, rhythmic complexity, and harmonic daring. Scarlatti's music played a crucial role in the transition from the Baroque to the Classical period, and his sonatas had a significant impact on later composers, including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Scarlatti served as a composer and keyboard teacher in various European courts, including those in Portugal and Spain. His music continues to be admired and performed by pianists and harpsichordists worldwide for its brilliance and expressive qualities.
