Franceso Maria Veracini - Sonata Accademica in E minor Op.2 No. 8 Violin Solo & Piano Accompaniment Book 📚

Francesco Maria Veracini's Sonata Accademica in E minor Op.2 No. 8 is a piece for violin and piano, edited by Lenzewski and published by Edition Peters. Veracini, born on February 1, 1690, in Florence, came from a family with a strong musical background; his grandfather was one of the first violinists in Italy.

Known for his eccentric personality and arrogance, Veracini was a highly sought-after musician in his time. He toured extensively throughout Europe, had his operas performed in London, and also performed at the Dresden court of Augustus the Strong.

Often compared to Antonio Vivaldi, Veracini's music is noted for its exuberance rather than formal unity and polish. This characteristic extravagant style is evident in the Sonata Accademica in E minor, a piece that showcases his limitless enthusiasm for music.

Who Was Francesco Maria Veracini?

Francesco Maria Veracini was an Italian Baroque composer and violinist, born on February 1, 1690, in Florence. He came from a musical family and was one of the leading violinists of his time. Veracini was known for his virtuosic technique on the violin, and his compositions reflected this skill. His works include sonatas, operas, and oratorios.

Veracini was a somewhat eccentric and complex figure who had a successful but tumultuous career. He traveled widely, performing and composing in various European cities such as Venice, London, and Dresden. In London, he competed with the likes of Handel, and in Dresden, he performed at the court of Augustus the Strong.

He was also known for his idiosyncratic compositional style. While he was compared to his contemporary, Antonio Vivaldi, Veracini's music stood apart for its complexity and individuality, often lacking the formal unity and proportion that characterised other composers of his era. His music was often extravagant and showed off his virtuosity as a performer.

Despite his reputation for being arrogant and eccentric, there's no doubt that he was a musician of great skill and imagination. His works, particularly his violin sonatas, have been studied and performed regularly, contributing significantly to the violin repertoire. He died in 1768 in Florence.
