2 Violins and Piano Ensemble Book

The Edition Peters publication features Antonio Vivaldi's "Concerto in D minor Op. 3 No. 11 (RV 565)" for a two-violin ensemble accompanied by piano. This concerto, part of Vivaldi's renowned collection "L'estro armonico," showcases the composer's genius and mastery of the baroque style. The edition includes the solo violin parts along with a piano accompaniment, providing a rich musical experience for performers and audiences alike across 24 pages.

Who was Antonio Vivaldi?

Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) was an Italian composer, violinist, teacher, and cleric of the Baroque era. He is best known for his instrumental compositions, particularly his concertos, and is considered one of the most influential composers of his time.

Vivaldi was born in Venice, Italy, and showed musical talent from a young age. He was ordained as a Catholic priest and became known as "The Red Priest" due to his red hair. He worked at the Ospedale della Pietà, an orphanage and conservatory in Venice, where he composed much of his music and taught the talented young girls who lived there.

His most famous work is "Le quattro stagioni" ("The Four Seasons"), a set of four violin concertos that depict the changing seasons through music. Each concerto is accompanied by a sonnet, likely written by Vivaldi himself, which describes the scenes and emotions portrayed in the music. Vivaldi's compositions are characterised by their vibrant melodies, rhythmic drive, and innovative use of form and harmony. He wrote numerous concertos, sonatas, operas, and sacred choral works. His music had a significant influence on the development of the concerto form and had a lasting impact on composers who followed him, including Johann Sebastian Bach.

While Vivaldi's music fell out of favour after his death, it experienced a revival in the 20th century, and he is now recognised as one of the great composers of the Baroque period. His works continue to be performed and celebrated today for their beauty and creativity.
